Instructions
Make the head pieces:
- Cut and stuff wavy red felt hair and safety pin it to the top of the beanie.
- Cut and stuff two ivory felt horns and safety pin them to the sides of the beanie.
- Cut and stuff the ivory felt mouth piece. Add two white pointy teeth and a pink tongue. Safety pin this to the front of the beanie.
- Make the eyes using white, brown, and black felt. Glue thick red felt eyebrows above each eye and attach them to the beanie with fabric tape.
Create the spike collar and arm bands:
- Cut five strips of black felt - four for the arms, and one for the collar.
- Cut small white craft foam triangles and glue them spaced out along the felt strips.
- Attach the bands with fabric tape.
Make the shell base:
- Cut an oval that covers the child’s back from cardboard.
- Cut an oval of green felt a few inches larger than the cardboard oval.
- Glue the green felt to the cardboard, starting with the top, bottom and sides. Pleat the corners and glue them in place.
- Leave an opening to stuff the shell with stuffing.
- Seal up the shell opening.
Create the white shell trim:
- Cut one leg off a pair of white opaque stockings.
- Stuff the leg with stuffing and hot glue the open end closed.
- Hot glue both ends of the stuffed stocking together in a ring.
- Stretch this ring over the outer edge of the shell and hot glue in place.
Make the straps:
- Cut two layers for each strap from yellow felt and glue them together.
- Glue the straps to the top and bottom of the back of the shell.
- Cut and glue a panel of yellow felt to cover the cardboard backing of the shell.
Make the shell spikes:
- Cut a circle from ivory felt and cut the circle in half. This will give you two spikes.
- Roll the half circle into a cone shape and glue together.
- Make 9 cones total.
- Stuff each cone before hot gluing them to the shell. Glue four spikes vertically down the center, and three cones on either side.
- Cut and glue thin strips of orange felt around the base of each spike.
- Use a green marker to draw hexagons around each spike.
Create the tail:
- Cut two matching curved tail pieces from yellow felt.
- Cut a thinner strip of yellow felt for the top of the tail to give it a flat base for spikes.
- Glue the thin strip of felt between the top edges of the curved tail pieces, and glue the tail pieces together. Stuff the tail as you glue.
- Make three small ivory felt spikes the same way you did for the shell spikes.
- Glue the spikes to the top flat part of the tail and glue the tail to the bottom of the shell
Make the belly:
- Cut an oval of ivory felt for the belly and attach it to the belly with fabric tape.
