Instructions
-
Make the ice cream headpiece:
- Cut circles: Cut two different sized large circles from cream colored felt, about 16” & 13” in diameter.
- Cut holes: Make small holes about an inch or so apart and about 1.5” from the edge of the circles.

- Thread pipe cleaners: Thread an orange pipe cleaner through the holes and pull the felt together as you go until you have a 5-6” diameter opening left from the larger circle, and a 3-4” diameter opening from the smaller circle. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together and tuck them inside.

- Add stuffing: Stuff both ice cream scoops with stuffing.

- Glue cover: Glue a felt circle over the opening to create the ice cream scoop base.

- Add elastic: Cut a length of elastic that fits over the child’s head and glue the ends together. Lay the elastic band in the center across the circle base and glue another felt circle over the base with the elastic sandwiched in between.

- Glue scoops together: Glue the smaller ice cream scoop on top of the larger one, and off center a little.

- Add finishing touches: Cut and glue bits of tan felt “honeycomb” bits and glue them sprinkled around the ice cream scoops.
-
Create the honeycomb:
- Download a honeycomb shape from the internet.
- If you have a cutting machine, use that to cut out two honeycombs from orange cardstock paper.
- Use an xacto knife to cut honeycomb if you don’t have a cutting machine.
- Glue the honeycomb pieces together to make one sturdy honeycomb and glue it next to the smaller ice cream scoop.
-
Make the bees:
- Glue a smaller black pom pom to a slightly larger yellow pom pom.
- Bend and glue two black pipe cleaner stripes onto the yellow pom pom.
- Cut and glue white craft foam wings onto the back of the bee.
- Make about 6 bees (or more if you like!)
- Glue 3 bees around the ice cream headpiece.
- Safety pin 3 or more bees to the clothing.
-
Cut the Van Leeuwen Logo:
- Download the Van Leeuwen logo from the internet.
- If you have a cutting machine, use it to cut the logo onto a sheet of black iron on transfer paper.
- Iron the logo onto the clothing following instructions from the transfer paper package.
- If you don’t have a cutting machine, print out the logo and trace and cut the pattern from black felt. Glue the logo to a matching color felt as the tee and attach this piece with fabric tape.
-
Create honeycomb patches:
- Use a hexagon cutout from the honeycomb to trace and cut cream and tan colored felt patches.
- Attach these honeycomb patches in different numbers of clusters on the clothing with fabric tape.
