Instructions
-
Make the ice cream headpiece:
- Cut two different sized large circles from yellow-orange felt, about 16” & 13” in diameter.
- Make small holes about an inch or so apart and about 1.5” from the edge of the circles.
- Thread a yellow-orange pipe cleaner through the holes and pull the felt together as you go until you have a 5-6” diameter opening left from the larger circle, and a 3-4” diameter opening from the smaller circle. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together and tuck them inside.
- Stuff both ice cream scoops with stuffing.
- Glue a felt circle over the opening to create the ice cream scoop base.
- Cut a length of elastic that fits over the child’s head and glue the ends together. Lay the elastic band in the center across the circle base and glue another felt circle over the base with the elastic sandwiched in between.
- Glue the smaller ice cream scoop on top of the larger one, and off center a little.
- Cut and glue bits of tan felt “cheesecake” bits and glue them sprinkled around the ice cream scoops.
-
Create the whipped cream:
- Cut a length of white felt and make small snips across the center at different lengths apart.
- Thread a white pipe cleaner through the holes and pull the fabric together to bunch it to look ruffled.
- Hot glue the ruffle together in a circle and make another shorter one for the top layer. Glue them together and glue the whipped cream next to the smaller ice cream scoop.
-
Make the pumpkin stem:
- Fold a green pipe cleaner in half and twist it together for strength.
- Roll the pipe cleaner in the middle of a panel of green felt so that the bottom is wider than the top. Bend the top section to curl in a bit and glue the base to the center of the whipped cream.
- Roll two green pipe cleaners around a pencil to make coiled vines and glue them to the base of the stem.
-
Create the leaf collar:
- Cut a large circle from green felt and cut a hole in the center large enough for the neck. Measure the width of the neckline if needed.
- Cut the pointed leaf shapes all around the collar and safety pin it in the back around the collar.
- Add a few coiled green pipe cleaner “vines” around the collar piece.
-
Cut the Van Leeuwen Logo:
- Download the Van Leeuwen logo from the internet.
- If you have a cutting machine, use it to cut the logo onto a sheet of white iron on transfer paper.
- Iron the logo onto the clothing following instructions from the transfer paper package.
- If you don’t have a cutting machine, print out the logo and trace and cut the pattern from white felt. Glue the logo to a matching color felt as the tee and attach this piece with fabric tape.
