Materials

  • One rainbow kids outfit
  • Different sized Shipping Boxes [For Body and Hat]
  • Bottle Caps [Anything you can find around the house]
  • Assorted Felt [6 x 6 inches or 9 x 12 inches] [Magenta, Light Pink, Neon Yellow, Lime Green, Purple, Orange, Golden Yellow, Teal, Turquoise]
  • Assorted Paint
  • 3 - 4 cans of Metallic Silver Spray Paint [Depending on the size of box]
  • Pom Poms [1 Bag]
  • Pipe Cleaners [1 bag]

Tools

  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Scissors

Instructions

For the body:

  • Choose a packing box that fits your child best, make sure to pick one that has some wiggle room! Take the box outside and spray it with the metallic spray paint. Let this dry for about 2 hours, and then go back and patch up any spots that were missed.
  • While you wait, go around your house and collect as many bottle caps, detergent cups, cans, lids etc. you can find. Once you have gathered all the miscellaneous items, lay down some paper and begin to paint them. Let this dry for about 2 hours.
  • During that time grab your assorted felt. If you want to follow my pattern exactly you will need the following colors - Magenta, Light Pink, Neon Yellow, Lime Green, Purple, Orange, Golden Yellow, Teal, and Turquoise! First, cut a one inch strip from each of these colors - Magenta, Orange, Golden Yellow, Teal, Turquoise and Purple of the felt.
  • Next, cut out a perfect medium square out of the light pink felt. Next cut a large heart out of the magenta felt. Make sure the heart fits inside of the perfect square [If it is too big, cut it down to fit after measuring].
  • Next, cut a small heart out of the purple felt. Place the small purple heart against the lime green felt to help conceptualize the size of the next heart… a good tip for this is folding the lime green felt in half, and then folding the purple heart down the middle seam and cutting about a pinky finger width of space apart. Then repeat the same steps with the medium lime green heart against the neon yellow felt for the large heart.
  • Last cut out a crescent moon from the turquoise felt for the robots mouth. Begin hot gluing all the felt, pom poms and bottle tops/miscellaneous items to the medium packing box.

For the hat:

  • Choose scrap box pieces and make any shape hat that you want.
  • Next, cut out a small heart out of the magenta felt. Curl some pipe cleaners to resemble a pigs tail and pick out some Pom Poms. Begin hot gluing all the items you’ve chosen for the hat.

Pro-tips

  • Have a scavenger hunt with your kids for random household items and have them help you paint them!
