Products you’ll need (2)
Materials
- One red striped kids top
- One blue kids bottom
- White beanie
- Red felt (1 sheet 9x12 inches)
- Red yarn (1 ball)
- Cardboard (2 squares 4 inches each)
- Wrapping paper tube (20 inches long)
- Newspaper (few sheets)
- Brown duct tape (1 roll)
- Round cup for tracing (4 inch diameter)
- Roll of tape for tracing (2 inch diameter)
- Pencil
- Round eyeglasses
Tools
- Safety pin
- Double sided fabric tape
- Scissors
Instructions
- For the pom pom: Use a 4 inch diameter cup to trace a circle on each of the cardboard squares. Trace a smaller circle in the center of each larger circle using a 2 inch diameter roll of tape. Cut out the ring of cardboard and cut out a gap on the ring so it looks like a “C” shape. Place the two “C’s” together and wrap red yarn all around it. The thicker the wrap, the fuller your pom pom.
- Once done, cut the yarn around the perimeter, being careful not to lose yarn pieces as you cut. Cut a length of red yarn and wrap it between the two cardboard pieces. Knot a couple times, and once secure, remove the cardboard. Trim off any pieces that stick out too far and safety pin to the top of the beanie, with the safety pin on the inside.
- For the brim of the hat: Cut strips of red felt to cover the brim of the hat. Place the hat on child’s head and use fabric tape to attach the felt to the hat.
- For the cane: Twist a couple sheets of newspaper together and roll into a “C” shape. Stuff one end of the newspaper into the top of a wrapping paper tube and wrap brown duct tape around it to secure together. Tear off strips of duct tape and wrap around the curved newspaper, bending it to curve as you tape. Wrap duct tape around the rest of the cardboard tube.
- Accessorize with round eyeglasses, and try to blend into the crowd!
