A Photo Activity to Do With Your Family
Take a look through your camera roll, through your child’s eyes.
This Family Day, while we’re hoping to snap a few new pictures with the people we love the most, we’re also taking time to go through our never-ending camera rolls to see if there are any hidden gems to discover. But instead of scrolling alone (in bed, from the hours of 12-2am, as one does), we’re trying something new…
As grown-ups, we tend to dismiss any photos that aren’t “perfect.” You know the shots: the ones where a set of eyes is closed, or someone’s looking away, or someone’s hair is blocking someone’s face, or someone is straight-up *scowling* despite your best efforts to crack a group smile. But what special moments do we miss when we overlook those, in pursuit of what “looks” good?
With that in mind, we’re seeking out the freshest, most honest perspectives we know — those of our kids. We want to hear from them, to see what they consider worthy of a framed spot on the mantel. Do we expect a few wildcards? Of course! But we’re excited to include our kids in the process, and reflect on those captured moments through their eyes. If you’re interested in trying this too, here are a few prompts and questions to ask your children to get the conversation started.
- Give your phone to your child and ask them to “heart” their favorites. (It might be helpful to gather any group shots into a separate album beforehand.)
- What do you remember about this day? How were you feeling?
- How does this photo make you feel now?
- What’s your favorite part about this photo?
- You hearted this photo. Why?
- Which photo would you want to see in a picture frame?
- Are there any places that you want to take pictures that we haven’t before?
- Are there any places in these photos that you want to go back to together?
Happy scrolling! Share your child’s favorite pic with us on social @primarydotcom with #primaryfamilyday. We’d love to see. ❤️
