Instructions
A truly delicious costume idea
TOMATO:
- Cut 2" foam (craft and fabric stores carry this!) into two circles using an exacto knife. For A 14-month-old, used a 13" diameter circle.
- Wrap red felt around the circles and use hot glue to attach.
- Use white or light red paint to create the tomato details!
- Using hot glue, attach two strips of red ribbon between the two circles, leaving space in the middle so you'll be able to slip the tomatoes over your child's head.
LETTUCE:
- Place a 1-2 inch long piece of double stick tape directly onto the front of the pajama top.
- Fold a piece of green tissue paper in half, then half again, and attach the center of the paper piece onto the double-stick tape.
- Repeat all over the front of the pajama top, except the sleeves - I used about 20 pieces of tissue paper in three different shades of green.
- Check for any bare spots, and add more tape and tissue paper if necessary!
BACON:
- Cut dark red felt into several wavy, irregular strips about 1-2 inches wide and 3 feet long.
- Cut peach or tan felt into several wavy strips about 1-2 inches wide and 3 feet long.
- Alternate the dark red and peach / tan felt strips on top of each other. Use hot glue to attach the two colors of felt strips together. My strips ended up being about five inches wide in total.
- Repeat steps 1-3 to create a second bacon strip.
- Use tan or white paint to add some depth to the felt strips (this is optional, but it makes the bacon look more realistic!)
- Layer the two bacon strips on your kiddo's shoulders and make them cross on the belly. Attach the strips together with hot glue to hold them in place.
BREAD FOR ADULT:
- Cut 2" foam into a bread shape (vaguely a rounded rectangle).
- Cut a 2" wide strip of brown felt to create the crust - make this strip long enough to wrap all the way around the foam bread slice. Attach it with hot glue.
- Create texture / depth by dabbing the bread slice with tan or brown paint. You can make it darker around the outside to really up the realism!
- If you wanted to make it hands-free, add some straps to the back of your bread slice and wear it like a backpack on the front.
