Instructions
Add some celestial sparkle this Halloween season with our Primary DIY Galaxy costume. Help your little one become the star they are! The temperature hovers around -450 F in outer space, but your kiddo will stay warm and cozy in our comfy Primary essentials. This look may be universal, but it's certainly unique! Bonus points for eating a bunch of Milky Way bars while wearing this costume.
For the planets:
- Cut your stencils apart, and think about where you want the stars and planets to be on your costume.
- Place one stencil at a time firmly on the garment, and using a piece of kitchen sponge, dab the paint within the area of the stencil. Lift the stencil carefully when you've finished, and rinse or wipe off the excess paint on both sides before you place it on a new section for stenciling.
- Once you've finished stenciling an area, let it dry. If, after drying, the stenciled images look faint, go over the areas with more paint, using a paintbrush.
- Stencil the sides and backs of the hoodie or top and bottoms once the other areas have dried.
For the twinkly lights:
- Use one strand to cover the left front and arm, one for the right front and arm, and the third for the hood and down the back.
- Use masking to tape the lights where you would like them, making sure to keep the battery packs down by the waistband of the hoodie or top.
- Using a needle and black thread, tack the wires of the lights to the sweatshirt and remove the masking tape as you go.
- Place the battery packs in a stretchy waist pouch.
For the hat:
- Knit a black beanie with red-orange-yellow flames around the brim, or follow our DIY Sun headband instructions!
- Alternately, paint flames like the sun with face paint on your child's forehead instead of a hat.
For the final touches:
- Apply the face paint to shine like the sun. Suit up!
