Queen and Guard

Materials

  • One red kids top
  • One black kids bottom
  • One blue kids dress
  • Black faux craft fur (Approximately 12x20 inches)
  • Gold cord (2 yards)
  • Mustard yellow felt (2 sheets 9x12 inches each)
  • Black felt (2 sheets 9x12 inches each)
  • Royal blue satin fabric (¼ yard)
  • Gold cardstock
  • 1” circle punch

Tools

  • Double sided fabric tape
  • Hot glue gun and sticks
  • Scissors

Instructions

For the Guard:

  • For the hat: Wrap the black faux fur around the child’s head to get the right fit. Trim to size and hot glue the ends together. Cut a length of gold cord to fit loosely under the chin and glue to the bottom edge of the hat by the ears.
  • For the collar: Cut two long rectangles from mustard yellow felt and cut the ends to taper like a trapezoid. Glue one end together and attach the other end around the collar with double sided fabric tape. Cut two smaller rectangles from the same felt for the shoulder pieces. Cut three pieces of gold cord for each shoulder piece, with the center one longer than the others. Glue onto the small rectangle and glue the top edges to either end of the collar piece. Cut two longer pieces of gold cord and glue to the center bottom of the collar to the right shoulder piece.
  • For the sash and pins: Cut a long sash piece that fits over the shoulder to the waist. Safety pin it to the shoulder under the gold shoulder piece, and together at the waist. Cut a small black rectangle and a thinner mustard yellow rectangle to fit on top and glue together. Glue three short pieces of gold cord to the yellow felt and attach to the sash with double sided fabric tape.
  • For the cuffs and buttons: Cut two rectangles from black felt to fit around the wrists. Cut two long mustard yellow felt rectangles and glue them vertically at the center of each black cuff. Glue gold cord around the top and bottom edge of each cuff. Use a 1 inch circle punch to make four gold circle buttons from gold cardstock. Glue one button to each cuff on the yellow felt and use double sided fabric tape to attach two buttons to the belly on the tee.
  • Accessorize with a toy sword and black galoshes.

For the Queen:

  • Put on the blue dress.
  • Accessorize with a curly grey wig and light blue straw hat, white gloves, black purse, and light blue collared jacket.
