Instructions
This Halloween, it won't really matter who won the Star Wars battles against the Galactic Empire – one thing is clear, your kiddos will win Halloween with the Primary DIY Jedi Knights costume. This group look gets multiple gold medals for Most Comfy and Least Effort using our easy DIY instructions and primary basics.
For Rey:
- For the fabric sashes: Use 2 - 2.5 yards of off white lightweight fabric such as cotton gauze or rayon. Cut two 10 inch by 2 - 2.5 yard strips of fabric, depending on the height of the child.
- For the belt: Use brown felt to cut a belt 1.5 inches wide by 60 inches long. Glue lengths of felt together to make one continuous piece if necessary.
- Assembly: Bunch the fabric pieces and drape one over each shoulder. Criss cross the hanging fabric across the front of the body, and the same over the back of the body. Wrap the brown belt around the waist twice and safety pin together to secure. Trim off any excess felt as needed.
For the Jedi Knight:
- For the brown hooded cloak: Measure from the top of child's head down to the feet and multiply that number by 2. Cut brown felt fabric to that length and about 12-16 inches wide, depending on the size of the child. Fold the fabric in half so the top folded edge is the center of the hood. Once folded, you'll either sew (if you're up for it) or hot glue the long back edges together. This will be the seam in the back center of the cloak and give you the pointed hood. Have the child lay down next to the fabric once the back is attached together, and mark how far down from the top of the hood the sleeve opening should be. Cut a vertical slit in the center the fabric, and repeat for the other side.
- For the sleeve: Cut two pieces of felt or fabric about 10-16 inches (arm length) long and double the length of the armhole opening. Fold the fabric in half and sew or glue the long edge together. Then glue or sew the sleeve armhole opening to the wrap armhole opening on either side of the wrap.
- For the belt: Use brown felt to cut a belt 1.5 inches wide by 60 inches long. Glue lengths of felt together to make one continuous piece if necessary.
- Assembly: Wrap the belt around the waist twice and secure in place with a safety pin. Wear the cloak over white pjs.
